June 5th, 2018 (Red Bank, NJ) -- On Tuesday, June 5th at 9:10pm, Josh Welle (Wel-ee), candidate for New Jersey's 4th Congressional District, won the Democratic Primary.

"After a tough Primary, I'm prepared to carry the Democratic flag in the general election. America needs a new generation of leaders with fresh ideas to fix a broken Washington. I'm committed to making Central Jersey the best place to live, work, and raise a family."

In Welle's speech accepting the nomination, he reiterated a campaign message calling for common sense gun reform, fixes for a broken healthcare system, and a rollback of the GOP tax plan eliminating SALT tax deductions. Welle addressed 37-year incumbent Chris Smith's chronic absence from the district, failure to shape the GOP agenda for New Jersey, and silence on the 21st-century challenges everyday New Jersey families must endure.

"Leadership starts with listening to members of the community and unlike Chris Smith, I'm ready to take questions from voters across the District," Welle said, before announcing a commitment to hosting 24 town halls in the district before the November 6th General Election (one town hall for every year Chris Smith hasn't held a public meeting). The town hall tour is designed to give a voice to the pent-up frustration with Smith's absenteeism over the years.

Welle emphasized a growing grassroots movement would be necessary to beat Smith in November. He seeks to unite all Democrats, including Jim Keady's supporters, in pursuit of a higher calling: A new day for Central Jersey where our values are represented in Washington. With more than 150 volunteers this week, "super" volunteers and staff were able to contact 12,400 voters, knocking on nearly 10,000 doors. As a result, volunteers engaged voters in all 43 municipalities across the district. The campaign believes that this Get Out the Vote (GOTV) effort has been the largest in New Jersey's 4th District in more than a decade.

Josh Welle is an Annapolis graduate, Afghanistan veteran, Navy Reserve Commander, and former founder of a technology company. He was raised in Wall Township and is a Democratic candidate for New Jersey's 4th Congressional District competing to unseat 37-year incumbent Chris Smith. He lives with his wife, Angela, in Monmouth County, New Jersey.
